Welcome to Merlin Class
My name is Mrs Georgeson and I am the Year 2 teacher Monday through to Thursday. I am very excited to be teaching your child this year and I look forward to getting to know them.
Together, through playing and learning we aim to REACH our full potential by inspiring to be:
This half term, we look forward to another busy half term. In English, we are going to be focussing on our Literacy Pathways text, ‘The Owl who was afraid of the dark’ where we aim to write a non-chronological report at the end of the term. Here, we will be using different conjunctions to make our sentences longer, learn how to use commas in a list and begin to use some ‘ly’ adverbs in our work. In Maths, we will be continuing with our addition and subtraction using numbers to 100 and we will continue to explore shape on Fridays. We look forward to learning about maps in Geography and we will investigate whether we think it is better to live in a hot country or cold country, learning lots of new vocabulary a long the way. In Science, we will be looking at microhabitats where we will be learning to conduct an investigation. As musicians, we will be listening to rural and urban sounds and we will begin to compose our own piece of music using instruments.

A Day in the Life
Below is a timetable of our week in Merlin Class.
P.E will be on Monday mornings and Wednesday afternoons. On Mondays your child can come to school in their P.E kit but please pack their uniform so they can get changed after it. On Wednesdays, they will come home in their P.E kit with their uniform in their bags. There is no need to bring in a snack for your child in the morning as school can provide it. However, if you choose to do so, we encourage a healthy snack such as a piece of fruit or veg. Toast can also be bought. Can you please bring a water bottle in for your child, with their name on so they can stay hydrated throughout the day with their name on. We do encourage water only.
- Read, read and read some more! This will really help your child’s development across all areas of the curriculum. Please ‘strive for 5’ times a week. Please sign their reading diaries accordingly and have them in every day.
- Counting- there are so many opportunities at home to count. e.g.- counting objects, playing games, timing an activity
- Telling the time- in Y2, children are expected to tell the time to the nearest 5 minutes.
- Encourage your child to undress and dress themselves including buttons/ shoe laces/ zips
